Spring is almost here… and the Spruce Avenue Community Newsletter is heading to press but there’s just too much fun happening to wait until it hits your mailboxes.. here are some of the upcoming events in your neighborhood.
Please join us for our 20th ANNUAL SPRUCE AVENUE COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE
When: Friday, April 29, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm & Saturday April 30, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Where: Spruce Avenue Community Hall, 10240 – 115 avenue
What: An opportunity to shop, donate to our community and socialize…and maybe have a snack too! Concession open with proceeds to the park project.
Start your spring cleaning! Donations of gently used items would be greatly appreciated! From toys to tools, this event is a great way to get rid of things you’ve grown out of and pick up new-to-you stuff you need. Several tables will be dedicated to the Spruce Avenue Park Re-development Project
*Due to limited space we are not able to accept large household items including sofas, stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers and computer equipment. Donated items may be dropped off at the hall starting Monday April 25 or can be picked up.

Liked Casino Royale? Why not be a CASINO VOLUNTEER!
You may not meet James Bond, but you’ll feel like a superstar when you volunteer for your Community League by helping at a Casino. Proceeds from the casino will go towards the completion of the Spruce Avenue Park and surrounding area. Transportation can be provided if required. Contact Rebekah @ 780-477-9803 to volunteer.

New Volunteer Opportunity – Role Models Needed
We are seeking local volunteers to connect with youth in the community! Spruce Avenue Junior High. Spruce Avenue Community League and the City of Edmonton have started a before-school drop-in gym program. The program promotes a positive atmosphere and gives the students a safe space to be before the school starts. You can play sports or board games, hang out, or simply facilitate positive conversations. Through the remainder of the 2016 school year, you will co-lead with a City of Edmonton staff member who will also provide on-site training.
Where: Spruce Avenue Junior High School
When: Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 7:30am-9:00am on school days
Start Date: As soon as possible
# Positions: Unlimited
Ages: Any adult is welcome. The position is ideal for retired individuals in the area who want to be a positive role model for local youth
Spruce Ave Celebrates History: Community History Project
Spruce Ave Community League is turning 65 this year and we have started an ongoing celebration, commemoration and preservation project. Here is some information about upcoming events:
History Project Launch – April 29-30: The project officially kicks off during the Garage Sale, where we will unveil some archival photos for display in the hall. We will also have a table set up where you can learn more about the project. Drop by to see us during the sale, or find out more in the brochure attached to this newsletter.
Spruce Avenue Jane’s Walk – May 7 @ 10am: The 2nd Annual Jane’s Walk in Spruce Ave is part of an international movement of free citizen-led walking tours where people tell stories about their communities, explore their city and connect with neighbours. Walks happen around the world on the 1st weekend in May. Join Spruce Avenue residents and urban planner, Wesley as he traces the roots of Edmonton’s Polish community and the history of our neighbourhood. The 1.5-hour walk is family-friendly and starts at the west entrance to HP Centre at NAIT (106 St. north of Princess Elizabeth) at 10am on Sat. May 7; the walk ends at Spruce Ave Hall.
