Here are some community events that are sure to make your days merry and bright:
FAMILY SKATE & HOT CHOCOLATE: Spruce Ave Community League Hall & Rink
Saturday, December 19th, 1pm – 4pm: bring the kids for a festive family skate at the rink. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, holiday snacks and wintery fun! Free!
Front Yard in Bloom presents Winterscapes. Summer may be over, but you can still create a beautiful and unique winter front yard. Nominate a yard in the following categories:
Winter Garden: landscaped yards with visible plants, snow, ice, and wildlife-friendly features. Yards may also include garden decorations, accessories, colour, and lights.
Winter Art: yards may feature creative winter scenes and snow/ice sculptures. Add plant materials, colour, lights, and use your vivid imagination to create an artistic winterscape!
Winter Play: these fun and kid-friendly winterscapes have playful features, and may include snow slides, snow forts, colourful snow/ice art, tree ornaments, lights, and much more.
Nominations will be accepted from January 11 – February 21, 2016. Visit Front Yards in Bloom: Winterscapes for more info!
Once again the City is offering free Learn to Skate programs at Community League rinks across Edmonton. Children aged 6-12 can try out various basic skating skills at their own pace through on-ice games and activities. Trained leaders will be on hand to adapt the program to the age and skill level of the participants.
- Participants must have their own skates
- A CSA approved helmet is required
- Participants under the age of 5 must be accompanied by an adult
- The program will be cancelled at -20 degrees Celsius with the wind-chill
The program at Spruce Ave Rink will run Saturdays from January 9th to February 27th at 2pm*. There are also a limited number of skates and helmets available to borrow at no cost.
(*please note there is no program February 13th because of the Family Day weekend)
